Description
WebClient combines the field proven ActiveUTS/ActiveT27 controls with ASP (Active Server
Pages) to provide the complete functionality of a UTS/T27 type terminal connected
over TCP/IP to a Unisys mainframe. An HTML page on a web server
is accessed from a user's desktop to automatically download the ActiveX
control and associated components.
It is similar to the Web-UTS/Web-T27 products in providing access to a Unisys host but
is subtly different in that all configuration access occurs at the web server in
ASP pages and can therefore be more suitable for casual or public access. The
ASP pages can be customized or replaced by you in order to provide the look and
feel of your company.
What that
means in a web context is that we have developed ASP (Active Server Pages) that
perform all user verification and configuration access on the web server, prior
to sending the html page containing the ActiveX control to the client's internet
browser. Also, the look of the "terminal" can easily be
customized by , for example, changing the ASP page to add or remove buttons.
This is the initial screen that is presented from the
web server. It is a demonstration mode html page which can be
customized to look the way you want.

This is an ActiveUTS screen in an html page that has been generated by an ASP page using html frames. The buttons etc at the bottom of
the page are html objects which can be customized to your requirements.
Another interesting feature of using ASP is that you can generate different html per
user. When the user "logs on" to the web server you can use the
user name in the ASP page to add or hide buttons etc depending on the
user.

Web Server Installation
Installing the required web server files is simply a matter of executing a
single Setup.exe file and then building up your list of hosts and terminals.
This is the normal method of installation which allows your users to
transparently load the required ActiveX control and settings onto their desktop
just by accessing a provided web page. Sophisticated users can create or
modify HTML pages tailored for their own needs.
Our installation software queries for the URL of your web server and makes
the appropriate changes to the files governing the ActiveX control, while
installing all the files on your web server. Once you have created simple text
files for your terminal names file and hosts, an end user is able to access your
web server, and retrieve the ActiveX control.
User Access
The users access your web server via the browser on their desktop, as to any
web site. The first time they do this the browser will determine that the
embedded object is not present and will download it from the codebase specified
in the web page.
All things considered, the user is unaware of most of the "under the
hood operations" and simply accesses a web page that allows access to a
mainframe as if he/she were connecting from a regular terminal or terminal
emulator.
